Setting up Native Instruments B4 for use with the EZbus as a Software Control Surface

Windows Millennium and Windows XP users have the ability to send/receive MIDI information via the EZbus/computer USB port. Other operating system (Win 98 SE, Win 2000) users will need an additional MIDI interface installed and configured within B4 to send/receive MIDI data to and from EZbus/B4. In this example we will assume that you have a MIDI keyboard connected to the EZbus MIDI Input number three.

Step One
Depress the Audio/Virtual button on the EZbus so the LED is unlit.

Step Two
Click on the "EZ" icon located within your Windows System Tray. Scroll up and select Profile Editor.

Step Three
Once the editor is open, go to FILE > OPEN. Look in: C:\PROGRAM FILES\EVENT\EZBUS\PROFILES. Open the *.ebs file called Master Default. The B4 profile is on virtual button V4, page 1-4. Once the selected profile is opened within the Profile Editor, click the yellow download button. This will update the EZbus firmware with the Sonar Control Surface Profile. This task is accomplished via the USB connection.

Step Four
EZbus is now capable of controlling various B4 parameters via MIDI.

Step Five
Open B4. Go to SYSTEM > AUDIO SETTINGS. Select ASIO EZbus.

Step Six
Go to SYSTEM > AUDIO PORT. Select ASIO.

Step Seven
Go to SYSTEM > MIDI SETTINGS. Assuming that you have a MIDI keyboard plugged into EZbus MIDI 3 Input, select EZbus (3). If you are using Windows XP, select USB Audio Device (3).
